What
does a patent attorney/agent earn?
Starting salaries are significantly
above those of attorneys in general. Salaries generally start at $100,000
- $140,000 and go up to more than $300,000 for those that have been practicing
for a more than a few years.
What's the job
market for patent attorneys/agents?
For those who have passed the Patent
Bar Exam, positions as a patent attorney are easier to find than positions
as an attorney in general. The same can be said of patent agents. Additionally,
IP law is the one field of law that is actually recession-proof, due to the small number of people
who take and pass the Patent Bar Exam each year.
What does Patent Attorney do?
A patent attorney litigates patent cases in the federal court system, and represents clients
applying for a patent before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Patent
attornies can open their own practice, work in a law firm, or as
in-house council for corporations, in the engineering, biotech, technology or pharmacutical fields.
What about scientist and engineers
Some scientist and engineers who take
the patent bar exam end up going to law school and joining a patent law firms.
Others take the exam to open their own practice a patent
agents, much as a doctor does after graduating form medical school. Additionally, many law firms and corporate legal departments
hire patent agents to do patent work.
What
is OmniPrep's philosophy?
At OmniPrep we believe that the only way
to succeed on the Patent Bar Exam is to focus only on those topics that are repeatedly
tested on the exam. Therefore, the amount of time we spend on a topic is directly
proportional to its importance on the exam. We also believe that it is extremely
important to do as many practice questions as possible. Why? Because the new computer
patent exam pulls from a pool of questions that will consist of old questions,
slightly retooled old questions, and newly designed questions. In effect, OmniPrep
takes you through 12 years of past exam questions, including the 6 most recent
patent bar exams, using our online patent bar exam simulation software. We also
provide you with the latest electronic PDF version of the MPEP, so that you can
learn how to most efficiently use it for answer lookups. At the end of our course
the actual exam seems like just another practice test, and many of the questions
will be exactly like or very similar to the questions you have already seen.
When do you recommend
taking the Patent Exam?
We recommend taking the exam before you
start law school, since this will give you a huge advantage when looking for a summer internship after your first year. If you can't do that, then we recommend that you take it before interviews begin in your third year of law school, since, again, it looks great on your resume and will give you an advantage in getting the job you want.
When should I
start studying for the Exam?
Ideally, you should begin your studies
about 3 months before the exam. This will allow you to keep your study time down
to about 2-3 hours per day. We realize that this is not always possible, so we
have also designed our course for accelerated study. If you are willing to put
in 4-6 hours per day, you can begin your studies a month before the exam and still
pass.
How many hours of study does your
course require?
You need to put in somewhere between 120 and 200 hours of focused
study time, depending on how quickly you retain new information and what kind of legal background you possess.
Will a patent law
course help me on the exam?
It will help you pick up the material faster but not to pass the exam, because the exam is very narrowly
focused on the details of patent procedure contained in the MPEP, not the theory
of patent law practice.
Are
the same MPEP rules tested on each exam?
The material contained in
the MPEP is updated to some extent every year. OmniPrep keeps up with these changes
and includes them in its review course when they are introduced by the USPTO.
How
often does OmniPrep update its course materials?
The advantage to our
course is that we are able to update all material as the updates are issued by
the USTPO.
Do you accept international
orders?
Certainly. Our patent bar review course
is available worldwide. International customers can contact us by e-mail at admin@omnipreppatent.com.
All payments must be made via credit card.
Do provide volume
discounts for large orders by Law Firms or Corporations?
No. Since
OmniPrep is already one tenth of the price of competing programs, and offers a
100% money back guarantee should their employee not pass the Patent Bar Exam,
there is really no need for us to discount our review course any further.
